Many builders today have questions about green building, and building science. We can assist you in learning about building green homes and applying the principles of building science. But even more importantly, we have a complete package of services designed to take you there. The Environments For Living® Certified Green program is a national turn-key green building solution unlike any other.
As more and more of today’s prospective buyers seek out new homes that are environmentally friendly, builders have an unprecedented opportunity to deliver what the market wants. Green homes make a real contribution to the environment – and to the people who live in them. Buyers are increasingly drawn to green homes not only for the environmental benefits but also for very practical reasons that affect their pocketbooks, and their family’s health, wellbeing and comfort. Consumers are recognizing that a green home, built with the principles of building science, is a quality home with enduring value.
A Turn-Key Program, Total Green Solution
The Environments For Living Certified Green program offers the same start-to-finish services as the traditional Environments For Living program, with added features that result in water conservation, indoor energy efficiency and enhanced indoor environmental quality. Builders participating in the Environments For Living Certified Green program are offered a full range of services, including:
- Building science training – to educate builders and contractors, through live seminars and online training programs.
- Ecovaluation(SM) plan review – to estimate heating and cooling energy usage for each model
- Sales training – to educate builders’ sales forces in presenting program features and benefits
- Field training – to share expertise with builders’ employees, contractors and subs
- Testing and inspection – to confirm performance metrics, including duct tightness, air tightness and pressure balancing
- Marketing materials – to help explain the program benefits to prospective buyers
- Homebuyer Package – for builders to present to their homeowners, including:
- Certificate of Compliance & Emissions Statement – a declaration that the home complies with this unique program and an estimate to gauge how well the home helps to reduce harmful CO2 emissions
- Heating and Cooling Energy Guarantee – a three-year limited guarantee on heating and cooling energy use*
- Comfort Guarantee – a three-year limited comfort guarantee stating that the temperature at the location of the thermostat will not vary more than three degrees from the center of any conditioned room within a zone*
- ENERGY STAR® Certificate – to confirm that the home also qualifies for this highly recognized distinction
- Homeowner Operating Manual – to help homeowners understand and maximize the extraordinary qualities of their new home
Our Green Vision: 20-20-20
The Environments For Living Certified Green program assists builders in constructing homes that:
- Are 20% more energy efficient than code (2006 IECC)
- Achieve a 20% reduction in internal water usage
- Translate to a 20% reduction in carbon footprint (CO2 emissions)
The Environments For Living Certified Green program is “prescriptive” and designed to be complementary with “checklist” green building programs, both national and local. Builders who also wish to participate in the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes program (www.usgbc.org) or the NAHB Model Green Home Building
Guidelines (www.nahbgreen.org) will find that that the Environments For Living Certified Green program can help to earn the points necessary to achieve those designations. And, the Environments For Living program automatically provides the EPA ENERGY STAR® label for all qualifying homes.
In addition, builders may elect to design and market their Environments For Living Certified Green homes as inspired by ecomagination(SM) by adding GE appliances, lighting and home dashboard (www.ge.ecomagination.com). The ecomagination Homebuilder Program is a collaboration between GE, one of the leading
brands in the world, and Masco Corporation, developer of the Environments For Living program.
