  How do I get started?
It’s easy! Contact us toll-free at 1-866-912-7233, or via e-mail at
EnvironmentsForLiving@mascocs.com to obtain a list of Master Certified Contractors (MCCs) in your area. The MCC will help you fill-out the Plan Input Sheet. The original input sheet and your house plan(s) will then be sent to our Plan Review Center.

Why do I need a “plan review”?

The plan review provides you with the following:

  • A diagnostic analysis of your plan(s)
  • A comparison of the way the house will perform as specified versus the way it will perform utilizing the Environments For Living program features
  • An estimate of the costs required to meet the program features
  • A heating and cooling usage estimate
  • The estimated amount of carbon emissions that will be reduced under the Environments For Living program

Based on the Plan Review and the Environments for Living Program Requirements, you can then bid your project to your subcontractors - just as you do currently.

What are the typical Program Specifications for bids?

While every home is unique, there are some consistent specifications that are required for every home built under the Environments For Living program. Refer to the Program Requirements inside the Program Documents brochure.

What is the “heating & cooling guarantee”?

This is the guarantee for the amount of energy needed to heat and cool the home. The guarantee is for energy “use,” not cost. We cannot guarantee the cost since we do not have any control over utility rates. See guarantee for details.

  What is the “comfort guarantee”?

For the Gold, Platinum, and Diamond levels, the heating and cooling guarantee is combined with a comfort guarantee. The comfort guarantee promises that the temperature at the location of the thermostat will not vary more than 3 degrees from the center of any conditioned room within the thermostat’s zone. See guarantee for details and limitations. This guarantee is provided only with the Gold, Platinum, and Diamond levels. Those levels have additional Program Requirements.

Why is the insulation bid more expensive to meet the program specifications?
Your current insulation package and installation methods have evolved, providing you with a reliable thermal envelope to meet local building codes. With the Environments For Living program, meeting local code requirements is not enough! The program exceeds most current requirements and standard codes in order to enhance performance. The change in insulation techniques and application requires a higher degree of quality, skill, and time. Insulation contractors must be Master Certified by Advanced Energy Corporation. Additional attention is given to the interaction between the air barrier system and the thermal envelope. These components must work in harmony. Changes in framing may be required to support modifications to application methods.

Am I required to use Masco products to qualify?

Not at all. The Environments For Living program is performance-based, not product-based. You, the builder play a key role in managing and customizing the Environments For Living program to suit your homes, your market and your business. This means that you are free to use a manufacturer whose products meet the Program Requirements.

Who can help me implement the Environments For Living program for my homes?

Any Master Certified Contractor (MCC), including any Masco Contractor Services branch location, can provide you services under the Environments For Living program. The program recognizes the importance of maintaining long-term relationships and the need for competitive pricing. Therefore, non-Masco companies can participate if they are Master Certified by Advanced Energy Corporation prior to submitting bids.

How does a non-Masco company become certified?

The company must enroll and pass a four-day Master Certified training class with Advanced Energy Corporation.

  Who issues the guarantee?

MASCO Home Services, Inc., a MASCO Company, issues and administers all guarantees associated with the Environments For Living program.

How can I ensure that the completed homes have been correctly installed to meet the Program Requirements?

The Environments For Living program is designed to provide you with maximum flexibility; however, with that flexibility comes responsibility. For a list of your responsibilities see the Program Requirements. After your obligations have been met, the program requires the following:

  • Testing and inspections to verify that your home meets certain Program Requirements.
  • To ensure that testing and inspection procedures are in compliance with the program, we have quality control measures that monitor all test and inspection results and randomly retest and inspect a percentage of all homes.

What is an Environments For Living "Plus" level home?

Under the Environments For Living program, standard production homes are randomly tested and receive a two-year guarantee. For some builders, that is not enough. Those builders choose to participate in the Plus level. For the Plus level, each home is tested and receives a three-year guarantee. Additional fees apply. Since the program requires testing of each custom home, custom homes automatically receive a three-year guarantee.

Will I be required to name Masco Home Services, Inc. as an additional insured on any Environments For Living project?

No. As a condition of participation in the program, you will not be required to name Masco Home Services, Inc. as an additional insured; and, similarly, Masco Home Services, Inc. will not name you as an additional insured on any home built under the Environments For Living program. Each of us will be solely responsible for our own conduct in connection with the program.

What information do I need to provide with the weekly job schedule?

The tester will use your weekly job schedule to arrange for the required testing. The schedule report should provide:

  • A complete listing of each participating home, including lot number, block, physical address and model.
  • The date on which construction began/begins.
  • When the home will be available for testing.
  • When the completed home will be available for testing prior to closing.

Where can I download marketing materials to use as a participating builder?

As a builder participating in the program, you can download marketing materials for your use by following this link: Participating Builders.
