Biography: Rick Davenport

Vice President of Building Science

MASCO Corporation

Rick Davenport joined Masco Contractor Services (MCS) in 2001 as director of building science, where he is responsible for the development and implementation of the Environments for Living program, which helps builders to deliver new homes that are more durable, comfortable, healthier and more energy efficient than conventional designs. Employing the principles of building science, the program prescribes standards for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, ductwork and the building envelope, which encases the living quarters of the home.

In 2006, Mr. Davenport was promoted to Vice President of Marketing for MCS where he became responsible for all marketing efforts for Masco Contractor Services, one of the nations largest new construction sub contractors with over 300 divisions and 15,000 employees.

In 2007, Mr. Davenport was promoted to Vice President of Building Science for Masco. As Masco Vice President – Building Science, Rick will retain responsibility for the Environments for Living program, transitioning it from an MCS initiative into a Masco green strategy. Rick and his team will inform and support all Masco operating company efforts, upstream and downstream, in the area of building science, underscoring Masco’s enterprise wide leadership in the green space, inclusive of green building, green retailing, green operations and green living.

Prior to joining Masco, Mr. Davenport was vice president of market development for GreenStone Industries, the insulation division of Portland-based Louisiana-Pacific Corp./L-P, where his responsibilities included strategic planning, development of new market opportunities and management of applied building science programs. He was recruited by L-P in 1992 to head the company’s original insulation division, NatureGuard, and joined the GreenStone team following L-P’s acquisition of that company. At NatureGuard, he was responsible for all manufacturing, sales and marketing.

Mr. Davenport has spent his entire professional career in the insulation business, having earlier worked for two major insulation companies, beginning with family-owned Davenport Insulation, which has since become part of the Masco Contractor Services network.

Among his professional achievements are developing, with Advanced Energy Corporation (AEC), the industry’s first broad-based, multi-level certification training program for contractors to enhance quality assurance. He also developed, through partnerships with leading consulting firms such as AEC and Building Science Corporation, the industry’s first programs to marry energy efficiency with the broader principles of building science, resulting in a more comprehensive and cost-effective way for builders to upgrade the thermal envelope and incorporate the principles of system design. In addition, Mr. Davenport oversaw development of highest-capacity blowing machine in the insulation industry.

Active in the building science community, Mr. Davenport is a member of numerous professional associations and has been a guest speaker at builder, contractor and other conferences. A native of the Washington, D.C., area, Rick attended Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.V. He currently resides in Daytona Beach.
