Joe Lstiburek is one of the world's leading Building Science engineers and a recognized authority on moisture-related building problems and indoor air quality. As a one of the primary developers of the construction specifications promoted by the Environments For Living® program, Lstiburek provides ongoing technical consultation.

A principal of Westford, Mass.-based Building Science Corporation, Lstiburek has appeared on PBS Nova ("Can Buildings Make You Sick?") and is the author of numerous books and technical papers on Building Science, indoor air quality, durability and energy efficiency. He authored the U.S. Department of Energy handbook on moisture control and was a special contributor to the Environmental Protection Agency's guidance document on "Building Air Quality: A Guide for Building Owners and Facility Managers."

For the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), he served as chairman of ASTM E241 – "Increasing the Durability of Building Assemblies from Moisture Induced Damage." His participation in the development of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards includes review of Chapters 21 and 22 of ASHRAE Fundamentals and serving as a member of the ASHRAE 62.2 residential ventilation standard committee.

Lstiburek has conducted numerous forensic investigations, frequently serving as an expert witness on building failures. He is one of the world's foremost experts in the areas of rain penetration, air barriers, vapor barriers, air quality, building durability and construction technology.

An acclaimed public speaker and lecturer, Lstiburek's seminars and presentations on building durability are attended each year throughout the United States by hundreds of architects, engineers, builders and property managers. He conducted a 40-city seminar tour on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Building Owners and Managers (BOMA), on "Preventing and Mitigating Indoor Air Quality Problems."

He regularly consults with the nation's largest homebuilders on issues involving warranty problems and new building technologies. He is the principal investigator for the Building Science Consortium, one of four industry groups in the U.S. Department of Energy's Building America program, an initiative to encourage and develop energy efficient innovations for the U.S. homebuilding industry.
