VALLEY FORGE, PA, January 21, 2002 - CertainTeed Corporation's Insulation Group announced that the company has become a sponsor of Masco Contractor Services' Environments For Living® program. CertainTeed will offer the Environments For Living program to all of its builder customers across the country through its own specially trained employees and certified insulation contractors. CertainTeed will also market and promote the Environments For Living program throughout the United States.
Designed by leading U.S. Building Science experts, the Environments For Living program identifies ways for builders to achieve higher performing and more energy efficient homes. Program requirements include tight construction, fresh air ventilation, improved thermal systems, properly sized HVAC systems, pressure balancing, internal moisture management and combustion safety.
Builders can choose their level of participation - Silver, Gold or Platinum. At all levels, homes qualify for the Environments For Living Energy Use Limited Guarantee, offered for two years with an option to add a third year. The energy use guarantee identifies the estimated annual amount of energy (BTUs) needed to heat and cool the home. If heating and cooling usage exceeds the guaranteed usage, the homeowner will receive 100 percent of the cost of the difference.
Gold and Platinum level homes also qualify for the Environments For Living Comfort Limited Guarantee, which promises that the temperature in the center of any room will not vary more than 3 degrees from the temperature at the location of the thermostat. In addition to the guarantees, all qualifying Gold and Platinum homes also automatically earn the EPA ENERGY STAR designation because they are at least 30 percent more energy efficient than homes built to the 1993 Model Energy Code (MEC). Platinum homes actually surpass the standard with performance at up to 50 percent more efficient than 1995 MEC.
